Type 1 Diabetes
Is an autoimmune disease affecting cells in the pancreas which produce insulin. This means, insulin injections are required to mimic natural insulin production in order maintain blood glucose levels.

Type 2 Diabetes

Means the pancreas is still able to produce insulin, however, it is either not enough or the insulin isn't working well enough. This means that glucose is left to build up in the blood stream. Type 2 diabetes can be managed with diet, exercise, medications and insulin.

Gestational Diabetes
​​
Is a type of diabetes diagnosied during pregnancy. It occurs when the hormones produced during pregnancy cause the body to become resistant to insulin, resulting in elevated blood glucose levels. Gestational diabetes can be managed with diet, exercise, medcations and insulin.
